Welcome to Worship Band 2017-2018! Chapel Set List for Sept 20th

Hi everyone,
Again, welcome to (back for many of you) the band this year!  Really looking forward to it and what God is going to do in us and through us.  One thing I didn't mention for you new folks - I actually don't work at the school.  I just a parent volunteering to help lead a band.. and that's why its important to check you email as I will NOT be around at school much for you to ask me questions.  Hope that makes sense.

Remember to bring your ear buds and show up at 7am for chapel setup on Wednesday next week!

So, for chapel next week we'll do:

  • My Redeemer Lives - key of E
  • You Are Good - key of G
  • Praises - key of G
  • I Surrender - key of D (but starts on Bm)
We'll do them in the order above so that there's less key changing.
Here's the videos for the newbies:

Hi Everyone,
Here's the song agenda for Sunday May 28 at Jubilee.  Also for Thursday this week, here's the map to the park from the school:  https://www.google.ca/maps/dir/Bearspaw+Christian+School,+69+Street+Northwest,+Calgary,+AB/Bowness+Park,+48+Avenue+Northwest,+Calgary,+AB/@51.1390099,-114.2348183,13.36z/am=t/data=!4m13!4m12!1m5!1m1!1s0x537168069555185b:0x7008322920f5f467!2m2!1d-114.1894469!2d51.1869659!1m5!1m1!1s0x53716eb340f25d63:0x7c440bab04128bd7!2m2!1d-114.216914!2d51.097159

Please let me know if you can or can't make it and we'll decide based on weather and attendance if its a go or not.

Song Agenda:

I thought about solos a bit more and realized that it doesn't make sense to do them for another reason (besides the fact that we're really leading working in a church).  The sound guy won't easily know who is who and may have troubles turning the right mic up and the correct time....  Print off the chord charts if you need them - I've attached them below.

Next Chapel - April 26th Songs

April 20 - great practice today everyone!  I really enjoyed it.  In fact, even if Wednesday doesn't go well, practice as good enough for me  :-)  ...that doesn't mean we shouldn't try our best on Wednesday though.   Tambourine sounds good in every song, so percussionists, if you aren't drumming, please play it!

**********************************

So if you haven't heard, our next chapel is on April 26th.  We worked through a few songs for this chapel in last practice.  Next Thursday will be our last practice before this next chapel, so please try and be present.   The four songs we decided on last Thursday (due to this squashed schedule) are:

- The Happy Song   Key of D       Chord Chart
- Praises                   Key of G       Chord Chart
- Good Good Father   Key of E     Chord Chart
- Jesus We Love You  Key of G    Chord Chart

I'm a little uneasy about that one fast song and three slow songs still, but that's the way things stand currently.  I was thinking we could either swap 'The Happy Song' with 'Sing, Sing, Sing' or keep 'The Happy Song' and swap 'Praises' with 'Sing, Sing, Sing'....   Thoughts?

Chapel Next Week (Jan 12)

Great practice today everyone!  So, to review, the songs we're doing next week are:

Beautiful One   Key of A  Chord chart
L.C. - you do the roll up in this one on your right hand the choruses and bridge.  Notes are E A E.
Everyone, remember the break coming out of the bridges.
Singers - please memorize the words!
Intro - Everyone in big.
Verse 1 - guitars chugging, singers in unison
Chorus - band is bigger, singers still in unison
Verse 2 - guitars chugging, singers harmonizing, clapping, and smiling, everyone building to chorus
Chorus - 2 times
Bridge - 2 times - first time longer notes, second time building
Chorus - with the break
2nd Bridge - 'My soul...'  2 times - instruments - shots
Chorus - with the break
Outro

Happy Day   Key of G  Chord chart
L.C. - you do the alternating finger pattern in your right hand all through this song on the notes D G D.
D.H. - Keep your drum beats relatively simple with the bass drum and rolls.  No harm in that at all, and it will sound better than too much syncopation.  Snare, tom, bass drum build together in bridge.
Intro - Big band
Verse 1 - guitars chugging, singers in unison
Chorus - big band, singers in unison
Verse 2 - band bigger, singers in harmony
Chorus - 2 times, big band, singers harmonizing, smiling, clapping
Bridge - make sure you know the chords here!
Chorus - just the drums and singers
Chorus - big band
Outro

At Your Name   Key of E  Chord chart
Everyone start big in the this song!
B.S. - Remember to just strum down and play big when you need to
Intro - BIG BAND!
Verse 1 - Singers in unison, band pulls back
Chorus - Singers in unison
Verse 2 - Singers harmonize, bigger band, big build into chorus
Chorus - BIG BAND, singers harmonizing
Bridge - 2 times
Chorus - 2 times
Outro

Lion and the Lamb   Key of E  Chord chart
First verse build big into acapella chorus.
D.H. - This is another one where you can keep your beat simple.  With the build in the bridge you can start with the bass drum on the off beat and cymbal work.  Then a long, big, build with snare, tom, and bass drum together.
Need BOTH keyboards STRONG in this whole song
Intro - Big band
Verse 1 - Singers in unison, band pulled back
Chorus - Bass drum off beat & cymbals, Keys, and singers
Instrumental
Verse 2 - Singers can harmonize, bigger band
Chorus
Bridge - Drums big, long build with bass drums, snare, and floor tom together.  Band builds with drums
Chorus - Band breaks on 'Lion', comes back in FULL ON with 'Judah'
Chorus
Outro.
